The body of the basket is woven first then sisal, twisted palm leaf or leather handles are added.
Every basket has a characterful step where the weave is finished off at the back.
Each artisan weaver has their own individual weaving style which gives your basket a unique character. Following the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi we celebrate the beauty of imperfection!
All our baskets use locally sourced, natural fibres. Some may have a bleached appearance while others can have a yellow hue depending on the time of year the materials are harvested.
We love baskets! As old as time, they are woven by rural communities sourcing materials they harvest freely from the countryside around them. Eco-friendly, sustainable and long-lasting, baskets are both functional and beautiful objects for carrying and storing all manner of goods from grocery shopping to magazines, knitting wools, toys and firewood. As we become increasingly conscious of the need to move away from plastics and non-biodegradable materials baskets are more relevant today than they have ever been.Learn more
